I can tell you that as a parent, coping with Distance Learning has been challenging and has brought up a lot of emotions for me. I am mourning the fact that my child isn’t getting the typical school experience I always dreamed of for him and I am overwhelmed about my role in supporting and executing all the duties that fall on the parent when it comes to Distance Learning (figuring out technology, setting up a space in our home where they can do their learning time and stressing on how to get my child to sit and pay attention to the screen for more than 5 seconds).
In addition I have been struggling with explaining to my child what is happening and why he isn’t going to school with his friends like he used to. When he looks at me and asks why he can’t see his teacher and friends, how do I explain to a 3-year-old what Covid 19 is, what Social Distancing is, why they have to wear a mask, and why school is closed?!
As I have working on navigating this with my own child, I have been fortunate enough to come across some helpful resources I wanted to share with everyone. I also wanted to remind you that you are doing an amazing job. Just the fact that you are here right now, taking the time out of your extremely busy day to read this, shows just how much you care for your child and how hard you are working to support them as best you can during these unprecedented times. I see you, I appreciate you and you are awesome.
